IBM Rational Requirements Composer provides a rich requirements definition capability combined with the power of requirements management analysis functionality in a single Web-based application. All this and more is enabled by IBM^® Rational^® Jazz™ technology. Built on the Jazz Team Server, Rational Requirements Composer supports many types of development teams using iterative, waterfall, and agile-at-scale development methodologies using lightweight requirements processes. In addition to this, teams working with other Rational application lifecycle management products (Rational Team Concert, Rational Quality Manager) will enjoy a closer integration and consistent work experience using requirements management practices to enforce and drive development and test.

OBJECTIVE
The objective of this session is to provide a first hand opportunity to review the capabilities of IBM Rational Requirements Composer 3.0.1. This hands-on CLOUD session will provide an interactive experience with the power of visual techniques for requirements management and using Requirements Composer for "in context" collaboration.

AUDIENCE
This CLOUD session designed for anyone who has a need to create requirements - business analysts, subject matter experts, development leads, architects, and project managers to name just a few. Some high level knowledge of Requirements Management is good but is not required. Attendees are invited to become part of the Jazz community by registering on jazz.net prior to the workshop.

GoMidjets Annotate provides a source code viewer that colors each code line separately, depending on the criteria that you choose: by usernames, by dates or by versions. It also provides you with a special mode in which you can see removed lines. This feature helps you compare the same code line on different versions - even more than two versions simultaneously!

Meeting Time:

Making predictions is always a risky business. How does one really anticipate what might or might not happen in the coming year? The answer is that you observe what is going on in the industry and then form a picture of the patterns that you see emerging. Before I started writing this article, I wrote down the trends that I wanted to cover, based upon what I believe will be essential to understand in 2012. Then I looked back at my predictions article from January 2011, and realized that I had written about much of the same trends last year. Upon reflection, I realized that this is not surprising. Many of the trends that I see in 2012 have a development lifecycle spanning several years. The real challenge is to understand the factors that influence these trends and how they may impact you. The most important thing is to understand what you need to do in order to be successful in the face of the challenges that lie ahead. Here are my predictions for 2012 and some strategies for achieving success.

CM Becomes ALM
Configuration management (CM) is essential for any development effort, whether it be agile or not because keeping control over everything that you create is essential for your success (CM gurus call this function configuration status accounting). CM functions include source code management, build engineering, environment management, change control, release engineering, and deployment. Robust CM solutions that take a strong full application lifecycle management (ALM) approach is a trend I see emerging, and you and your users are the beneficiaries. Gone are the days when CM was just control of versions. Now we have to provide solutions to support the entire software or systems effort. This makes your job a little harder because you have to work on laying out the steps for the entire development lifecycle or, Application Lifecycle Management (ALM). The benefits are also substantial. ALM enables you to support mature development methodologies, including agile processes that can scale to support large organizations.

Agile Process Maturity
Having a well-defined and repeatable process is a good indication that your agile processes are robust and, as Scott Ambler often describes, scalable. The Agile Manifesto teaches us to value individuals and interactions over processes and tools. But a mature agile process does cover the so-called “items on the left” as described in the Agile Manifesto. As experienced methodology experts have learned, agile ALM cannot be achieved without robust tools, especially in larger organizations because there are just too many tasks to coordinate. The more complex the situation, the more that effective use of powerful tools will be essential for success. In fact, agile ALM impacts CM precisely because the lifecycle is often supported in the same toolset that handles version control, usually with defect tracking and workflow automation.
